Cristina Ruiz, energy manager at acciona.org, participated in the International Conference on Solar Technologies and Hybrid Mini-Grids to improve energy access organized by s-@ccess, held in Mallorca (Spain) from 26 to 28 April 2023.

It was the 4 th edition of this conference. The main objective was to enable exchanges between practitioners from the field, academia, financiers, and development institutions committed to decentralized energy access and local development. Cristina Ruiz participated in two of the sessions held.

On Thursday 27th Ruiz moderated the round table "Revenue, tariffs and ability to pay in off grid energy services and mini-grids" and on Friday 28th she presented "Luz en Casa: providing access to an afforable and sustainable electricity basic service", the experience of acciona.org in providing access to electricity service with the Luz en Casa programme, which improves the quality of life of families without access to this basic service by conventional means.

The conference provided an overview of the state of energy access in different technological areas and provided a space for exchange among participants, sharing their experiences or scientific research results.

Solar and other decentralized renewable energy technologies offer a unique opportunity to provide access to modern forms of electricity for more than one billion people who lack access to energy in rural areas around the world. Access to modern energy is a necessary condition for improving the quality of life of people in their households as well as improving the working conditions of their productive activities, among others.

acciona.org has been providing access to electricity with its long-term service since 2009, benefiting some 95,000 people in rural and isolated communities in Peru, Mexico, Panama, Chile and the Philippines. Its programme adapts the service to each social context because each community and its needs are unique. Learn more about this area of activity of acciona.org.
