ACCIONA Microenergia Peru was invited to participate in the Symposium on Solar Energy that is held yearly by the Peruvian Association on Solar Energy and Environment (so called APES). In this meeting with specialists and stakeholders, Jessica Olivares, the ACCIONA Microenergia Peru’s Manager, presented the talk “Universal Access to Energy: a service delivery model for the most remote areas of Peru”, where she highlighted the technical and economic solutions of the service delivery model proposed for Amazonian communities. This model was validated with the pilot project deployed by ACCIONA Microenergia Peru, in the Napo basin, with co-funding from CONCYTEC –the National Council on Science, Technology and Technological Innovation of Peru.

Besides showing the main results achieved with that project, its technological, economic and managerial models were introduced to the audience, while exhibiting a Third Generation Solar Home System similar to those installed in the Napo basin, as the proposal to achieve the universal access to energy in the most remote communities of Peru.

APES held this 24th edition of the symposium in collaboration with the National University Santiago Antunez de Mayolo –so called UNASAM– at the town of Huaraz (Ancash, Peru), counting with the speeches of the UNASAM’s Chancellor and APES’s President in the opening. During the week of this event, different activities were carried out including refresher and training sessions –mainly for the students of the UNASAM–, as well as interchange of information on technological advances of renewable energy, with the target of discuss and develop proposals for the Sustainable Development based on those technologies.

ACCIONA Microenergia and the Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) are included in the 2030 Agenda, a 15-year plan of action that favours the people, the planet and the prosperity. There are 17 SDG which are integrated and indivisible and that comprise the three dimensions of the Development: economic, social and environmental.

The rural electrification programmes of the ACCIONA Microenergia Foundation impact on those three dimensions, and directly on the SDG 7, Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

By participating in this symposium, the SDG 17, Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development, is impacted too: organizations specialized in different topics and from different countries, shared experiences in renewable energy technologies and applications that contribute to the global development.

ACCIONA Microenergía Peru

It is a non-profit association that was created by the ACCIONA Microenergia foundation to facilitate access to electricity to isolated rural communities, which are not included in the national grid extension of Peru. It develops the ‘Luz en Casa’ programme in the Northern Mountains of Peru, in the department of Cajamarca, where it is an electricity public utility within the Peruvian regulation, and with a fee-for-service model that applies the official photovoltaic tariff. It is currently extending its activities in the Amazonia, in the Napo basin, with the aim of scaling up the technological and managerial sustainable model of the pilot project, implemented in 61 households of the Napo district, to 350 additional families of that district and the district of Mazan.
