LUZ EN CASA NAPO PILOT

Project for evaluation of a new electricity service delivery model proposed for the Peruvian Amazonia

VALIDATION OF A PROPOSAL FOR ELECTRICITY SERVICE WITH 3G SOLAR HOME SYSTEMS INCLUDING PREPAYMENT FOR THE PERUVIAN AMAZONIA

In Peru, the rainforest covers the 60% of the territory along 11 departments, where more than 400,000 people live without access to conventional electricity service. Before this situation, we presented a proposal to give a sustainable, modular and environmentally-friendly solution to the FONDECYT’s call ‘IDEAS AUDACES 2015’, having obtained the maximum possible grant.

This consists of developing a pilot project implemented in 61 households, with an innovative electricity delivery model which is based on a multi-stakeholder management that involves the users and local authorities, the payment of an affordable fee for the service, and the technology of the third generation solar home systems with prepayment.

The project was executed in four communities of the Napo district (department of Loreto), and it ended with the evaluation of the proposed model. Some months after the systems installation, we developed a survey on the service satisfaction where the users confirmed the acceptability of the proposed model. The main results of that survey are shown below.
